In 2009 Shepley Group purchased Mothersill Engineering Ltd a well-respected precision machining company that has serviced Sellafield for over 30 years, to add to its nuclear grouping of companies. Since that acquisition, Mothersill Engineering and its sister company West Cumberland Engineering (high integrity fabrications) have been evolving and in an effort to simplify the way that we engage with our customers, we are in a process of rationalising the structure of the two companies. West Cumberland Engineering and Mothersill Engineering have now become one organisation, "West Cumberland Engineering Ltd" as of the 1st October 2015.

Building on the proud heritage, skills and customer relationships of two already successful and highly respected businesses in the nuclear market we will strengthen our market position and complement our already strong management team and talented workforce.
This will enable us to offer our existing and potential customers an improved service and also secure the future of our highly skilled employees sharing key functions such as Quality, Health & Safety, Purchasing, Stores and Project Engineering will enable us to reduce running costs and increase efficiency.

A single consistent quality structure is in place, accredited for all activities to both ISO 9001 and BS EN 1090 therefore, all documents will now be issued under the West Cumberland Engineering brand.
The combination strengthens our already considerable positions in the Sellafield Supply Chain and further enhances our established presence in the growth markets of second tier contractors.

The engineering and project delivery operations for the fabrication and machining units will be managed through the Engineering Manager responsible for each business discipline, Tony Brough (fabrication) and Craig Mothersill (machining), who will report directly to the Managing Director Graeme Phillips.

These combined business units will be supported by the Shepley group strategy and business development function - focused on the development of market and regional strategies, customer relationship, management, assurance, project excellence and delivery.

The 65 West Cumberland Engineering Ltd staff are local to Sellafield and they are supported by a further 900 Shepley employees including design, site installation, decommissioning and commissioning staff.

The base of operations for all West Cumberland Engineering fabrication and machining activities will remain at Lillyhall, Workington.
